A Fork In The Road

A Fork in the road

Sometimes life can take you down a path that you never imagined you would walk down. You spend years treading the same, dusty old road, with no end in sight and rain clouds as your only companion. Slowly you begin to believe that life will never change for the better and your hope starts to wane and wilt like the weeds in each hedge-row you pass.

On day you approach a fork in the road, with one direction leading onwards through familiar ground and the other disappearing into the unknown. For days, perched upon a gnarled and wizened tree stump, you muse on the new path that tempts you with wild-flowers and sun-rays – a mirage perhaps – sent to taunt you into a false pretence.

What would happen if you threw caution to the wind and took a new direction?

Well you might end up being pleasantly surprised.

My blog has been quiet of late and there is a reason behind this. I accepted my first paying client last week for my freelance writing services. I am officially in business and my mind is astir with excitement and fear in equal measure.

I can’t seem to comprehend the fact that I am now working for myself, doing a job that I love. Things like this don’t happen to people like me – we stand in the dole queue for years feeling small and worthless, while simply trying to provide for our families. We stretch every penny to make the most of its worth and then stretch it just a little bit more. We are the ones who don’t make a fuss and simply accept things as they are.

That doesn’t mean that we can’t dream however.

For once this dream has come true and the road I now walk, is a happy, hopeful and optimistic one. If I work hard enough, there is opportunity aplenty and with luck on my side, I am now beginning to believe that all will be well.

Saying thank you for the support

Five’s A Fellowship is where it all started – the depressive musings of a mother between a rock and a hard place, however I have you, my readers, to thank for cushioning my falls and picking me up when things have seemed too much. You will never truly know how much your support has helped me to get to this place – without you all, this may have remained as a dream.

Thank you. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

Good for you for taking the path when so many others would not have had the balls. I really hope it works out for you, though it sounds like it already is. :)

    • Thank you so much. This time last year, I never would have believed that I would be sat here writing something like this. I was in such a different place then, that it takes a lot of reflection to see just how much things have changed.
