In my experience your pillion will thank you for buying a GTR. I’ve only owned my C14 for two weeks now but wow! Here the Kawasaki definitely lives up to billing. Plenty of room two-up. Added to that the Kawasaki has a maintenance free shaft drive plus a sixth gear overdrive both of which add to its touring credentials.

Which is a damned shame. Ok the dealers fall over themselves to help you when things go wrong but they do seem to go wrong an awfull lot.

I prefer a digital speedo in the modern world of gtd1400 cameras and eager cops. Slick and on demand with a quick twist of the throttle. I have been wanting a big sports tourer for some time and couldn’t make up my mind, but this is the exact mix I was after. Long his weapon of choice, he loved the Kawi so much he encouraged his former employer to choose it for the patrol fleet.

For such a massive beast it moves well on twisty roads. With an electric screen, digital tyre pressure sensor gauges, large panniers as standard, variable valves, slipper clutch, shaft drive, an electricity socket, adjustable headlights, the Kawasaki GTR seems to have all the boxes ticked.


The Bad; cooked legs in summer. MCN says “This Kawasaki The suspension also has that plush, non jarring feel that in my book is spot on for effortless, long distance touring. This thing ticks a lot of boxes for me. The GTR is perfect for touring, commuting and general use. Great instrumentation but Kawasaki need to replace whoever wrote the software for it.

If you continue to use this site we will assume that you are happy with it. I also had the crash bars fitted, just in case, but they are very expensive. My only complaints are; 1- Gtr14000 the screen up your hands get soaked. Its a sports tourer not a tourer which means having a cruise control would not make much sense. I like all the bells and whistles that you always get; I like the practicality, the long-distance comfort, the performance that invariably is part of the package.

A replacement is on order from Two Brothers already. Already, after just one winter’s use, the alloy end cap on the can has been replaced under warranty due to corrosion and other alloy parts are starting to look a little sad too. The only thing missing is electronic cruise control. Kawadaki easy to understand and digest when on the move. On the other hand empirical facts backed by personal observations are less pliable and usually point somewhere near the truth as in the case of the Motorcycle Industry Association MCIA sales figures and my own eyes when it comes to sports touring motorcycles.

Often on shaft-driven bikes, the gearbox can be kwaasaki clunky but somehow Kawasaki has managed to give the GTR a gearchange as switch-like as any sports bike. Apart from that – no issues whatsoever and I can see me keeping this bike for a long time. I am in the market for kawasai This bike has Pirreli tyres which are great in the wet, btr1400 will get advice on any other makes. Two comments – 1 I’m 6 ft and wish the kawsaki was about 3 inches taller an upgrade is going to be available apparently2 the exhaust is about 6 inches too long looks like a turbine!


Kawasaki’s GTR has impressed in tests so far but how does it fair against its main rivals, the Such would be the joy of ownership: Being used to riding adventure bikes fitted with wind deflecting hand guards I was conscious of the fact that my hands were looking mighty exposed to the elements.

Instrumentation is, again, fairly old school, with large analogue speedometer and rev counter with an LCD display between them. Fitted a Pyramid front fender extender to protect the radiator and a Ductail which keeps the spray off the rear gunner.

This is the massively updated GTR, the first Kawasaki to use traction control. Handles well if it has better rubber on not BT212 to 3 hours riding and you might need a break, but the screen could be better, even an aftermarket one makes it still a bit noisy.
