I thought I’d kick off my return to blogging, by joining in on a blog-hop that I’ve seen going around. I’m in full agreement with Amanda at City Girl Gone Coastal, when she wrote that with only 140 characters on twitter, it’s difficult to get much of yourself and your personality across. Since I’m not overly good at joining in on conversations, especially on social networks, this would seem like the perfect compromise.
50 Things About Me
- I’m an incredibly shy person
- This is why I lurk on Twitter/Facebook and other people’s blogs, without contributing to the conversation (or saying something that seems stupid and unintelligent to me)
- I play Lord of The Rings: Online, Guild Wars 2 and The Secret World at the moment (yes they are video games!)
- I also met my parter (The Beef), playing Lord of The Rings: Online
- Six months after we met, we’d moved in together and managed to conceive twins!
- I have a dream to write a novel
- But I’m terrible at coming up with original ideas
- Sometimes, I wish I was single and childless
- I desperately want to decorate my house, but can’t justify doing it while the three children are still young, and 2 of them aren’t yet potty trained
- I love the idea of crafting and anything vintage, but can never find the time or enthusiasm to do anything about it
- I taught myself to read
- When I was young, I wanted to be an astronomer
- I’ve suffered with insomnia, from the age of 14
- I secretly love pastel colours
- But the only colours I wear are dark, with the exception of red
- I only wear make-up on special occasions (which is hardly ever!)
- I have a not so secret obsession with J.R.R. Tolkien
- I really like folding things
- I’m actually quite good at art, but haven’t drawn anything for years because I’m scared it will turn out rubbish
- I’m amazed by how neat and tidy, most of our elderly generation is
- Because I always look like I’ve been dragged through a hedge backwards
- I have a recurring dream, where I’m trying to hit/punch someone, but no matter how hard I try my hand somehow won’t connect with their face/body
- Whenever I plant something in my garden, the garden seems to devour it
- When I was a size 12, I used to obsess over my weight constantly
- Now that I’m a size 26, I’ve accepted who I am and am much more comfortable with my self-image
- I didn’t meet my dad until I was 13
- I used to live in Newcastle, but now live in a rural Devonshire town
- Incidentally it’s where my dad lives
- I believe that old age, is a form of regression back to a child-like state, to prepare the body for reincarnation
- I only believe this, because my mind can’t comprehend everything just ending suddenly
- I’m an Atheist
- I love listening to Loreena Mckennitt
- I was a Goth as a teenager and haven’t quite grown out of it
- Placebo, Muse and Linkin Park, are still my favourite bands from back then
- My dream is to live in a house on a remote Scottish island, where the weather is wild, where life is a combination of hard graft and simple pleasures, and where I can truly be myself
- People think I’m anti-social
- I’m not, it’s just most people don’t get close enough to understand me
- I have a crush on Prof. Brian Cox
- I’m 25 and have already got too many grey hairs to count
- At my funeral, I want everyone to dress in drag
- I named one of my twins, after the river Isen in Middle Earth
- I can crochet…a bit!
- My mother insisted that my middle name is Jane, even though it’s not on my birth certificate
- At High School, instead of paying attention to my Maths lessons, I used to sit and write poetry
- I also used to only hang out with the nerdy boys
- My last name used to be Staple and I naturally got cruelly teased for it
- I have not read Fifty Shades of Grey and don’t intend to.
- My first name means ‘Resurrection’
- My last name means ‘Spear-bearer’
- I think that’s pretty damn cool.
So there you have it, fifty things that you probably didn’t know about me this time half-an-hour ago. I didn’t realise how flipping hard thinking of that many things about myself, would be! It’s been an interesting exercise however, even if it’s just an exercise in actually remembering all about myself.
If you want to join in, pop on over to City Girl Gone Coastal and add your post to the linky and I look forward to reading some of your comments!

Great list! I do not think I could come up with 50 things about me at all!
Oh believe me it was a struggle! It took me well over an hour and to make matters worse, I had one of the twins, constantly trying to steal my mouse!
LOVE this! So many things ring true to me, esp about the dress size, I’m tired of worrying about my weight
And the bit about your middle name made me giggle
Haha yeah my mum insisted until the very end, that I had a middle name. Even when I waved the certificate under her nose!
Yay, thanks for linking up, the meaning behind your name are indeed cool! And I love that your mum insists you have a middle name, whilst I insist the name on my birth cert was put there by mistake!
You’re very welcome! It’s such an excellent idea to do something like this, especially since I’m not too great at putting myself across well! Thanks for hosting it!
Brilliant list! Some excellent points i love the Scottish island bit, im with you there!
It would be great wouldn’t it, to just get away from the distractions and petty stresses of a modern life. I doubt it will be a dream come true, but everyone needs dreams.
Ooh i loved your list too. The weight thing is so true to so many people. If im on a diet i obsess about my next meal when im not i only eat when im hungry! Im off now to find out what my name means and im not sharing my middle name, its gross
Haha, I’m sure your middle name is not gross! I’m like you now though when not on a diet – I only eat when I’m hungry and my food choices seem to be a lot healthier too. I think it’s a state of mind thing when you’re dieting. You tell yourself that you can’t have certain things, so you immediately crave what you can’t have!
Popped over here from City girl gone coastal! I read your list going ‘yes! omg yes!’
Awesome list!
Hey and welcome. I will make my rounds of the list when I have a bit of time. I’m glad you managed to relate to mine somewhat. I think most people have a lot in common, however it doesn’t usually surface until we really do ask ourselves these questions!
Lovely to meet you.
I have only just discovered your blog and love it already! Do I get nerd points for knowing what Secret World is? ( I’m married to a wargamer/geek!) Love the list! tempted to go over do my own! And hugely looking forward to reading more of your posts!
Oh you soooo get nerd points for knowing what Secret World is! Thanks loads for dropping by and taking a look around. I need more nerdy people in my life!!
